The Automobile Association of Eastern India was established on 28th August, 1904 which was formerly known as Automobile Association of Bengal. It is a matter of pride that this Association is one of the most ancient Automobile Association in the world being even senior to the Automobile Association of Great Britain. The first motor vehicle Act of this Country was mainly framed by this Association in the year 1913. On 30.5.1959 in keeping with the historical and geographical changes the name of the Association with its proud heritage over that time had also to be changed from Automobile Association of Bengal to Automobile Association of Eastern India and once again registered as Company under the provisions of the Company Act. 1956. By then the Head Quarter of the Association had already moved from Chowringhee to 13, Ballygunge Circular Road (Now Promothesh Barua Sarani), Kolkata-700019 and settle in its own premises. Automobile Association of Eastern India has completed its 100 years existence on 27th August, 2004 when Sri Budhadeb Bhattacharjee, Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal inaugurated the Opening Ceremony Celebration, Sri Subhas Chakraborty, Hon'ble Minister of Transport & Sports, Sri Subrata Mukherjee, Hon'ble Mayor of Kolkata were also present at Birla Sabhaghar. The closing ceremony was held at Science City Auditorium on 27th August, 2005 when Mr. Somnath Chatterjee, Hon'ble Speaker along with other eminent personalities were present.


         

ABOUT Sri Kalyan Bhadra ::

Kalyan Bhadra a keen social worker, probably one of the few supreme social workers of the recent days was invited to join AAEI in the year 1967. Its last thirty years time of its operation the Association has played a pioneering role in promoting motorists interest to the tune of national plans and programmes. Kalyan Bhadra planned to publish Motoring Guide of India the first of its kind. With his keen endeavour the association has been authorized to issue Carnet De Passage, by means of which cars could enter in any country without any hindrance whatsoever. Authority of issuing International Driving permits by the Association is an achievement of Kalyan Bhadra. As Hony. Secretary General of Automobile Association of Eastern India he became a mentor of the World Management committee of International Touring Alliance, constituting Automobile Associations and Touring clubs of 137 countries and member in the Managing Committee of Alliance Internationale De-Tourisme, a world body. He represented India in London, Vienna, Cape Town, Japan etc. By this way he placed a mere regional organization to the International map of Automobiles. He was the first Indian President of Region II (Asian Pacific Region).Under his able stewardship Automobile Association of Eastern India had organized All India Highway Motor Rally in 1972, Indo-Nepal Motor Rally in 1976, Eastern Safari Rally in 1983, first of its kind of this country.In the span of 35 years of his innumerable contribution to the Association, he will never be forgotten.


NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS

In pursuance of the order of the Hon’ble High Court of Kolkata, the 107th AGM of the Association will be held at the earliest and for which the register of members is required to be updated. All members are requested to submit their particulars through a prescribed Know Your Member (KYM) Application Form within 10th July, 2013, 'KYM' Application Form may be collected from the office of the AAEI or may be downloaded from the website www.uraaei.org.
